Autumn Hikes That Will LEAF You Smiling!

The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful place in the fall! There are so many AMAZING ways to get outside and enjoy the colorful foliage and the crisp air.


Here are some family friendly hikes for you to explore this season:






Skyline Divide

Location: North Cascades - West Slope

Round Trip: 9 miles, Elevation Gain: 2500 ft., Highest Point: 5450 ft

Fall feature: colorful meadows, views. Many hikers don’t go beyond the first viewpoint, but take the time to walk up the ridge for stunning North Cascade views. Better yet, haul up a backpack and take in the fall constellations on a clear (cold) night.

Parking Pass/Entry Fee: Northwest Forest Pass





Colchuck Lake

Location: Central Cascades -- Leavenworth Area

Round-trip: 8 miles, Elevation Gain: 2280 ft. Highest Point: 5580 ft

Fall Feature: Beautifully vivid yellow larch trees and spectacular scenery accessible to hikers of almost any ability.

Parking Pass/Entry Fee: Northwest Forest Pass





Rainy Lake

Location: North Cascades

Round Trip: 1.8 miles, Elevation Gain: 50 ft, Highest Point: 4800 ft.

Fall Feature: Grab your picnic basket and sit down at one of many benches, wowed by the fall colors, cliffs and waterfalls surrounding the lake. Wheelchair-accessible hike

Hurricane Hill

Location: Olympic National Park, Hurricane Ridge

Distance: 3 miles, Elevation Gain: 950 ft., Highest Point: 5757ft.

Fall Feature: Paved and gentle, Hurricane Hill is the ultimate autumn stroll for small children, even when in strollers. There’s no huffing or puffing required to immerse yourself in colorful alpine meadows of orange and gold, or see marmots and deer frolic nearby. Panoramic views on a clear day.
