“I really believe in my heart that that first turn you make on a pair of skis is your first taste of total freedom, the first time in your life that you could go anywhere that your adrenaline would let you go. And I show that in my films. I didn’t preach it. But once you experience that freedom — I’d personally narrate that show over 100 times a year — and I came to the conclusion that man’s search for freedom is embedded in our genes. That’s what everybody wants.” Warren Miller
SKI RESORTS NEAR SNOHOMISH COUNTY
1. Stevens Pass Mountain Resort
Travel Time: 1 Hr 35 Minutes
1,125-acre winter sports area with 37 runs, terrain park & night skiing
I have been skiing at this resort since I was in 6th grade and taking the ski bus up on Saturday mornings and have skied every inch of this place. If you are looking for a great place to day or night ski Stevens Pass is the closest. They offer a ton of runs from tow rope, to easy, intermediate, hard and super hard and even some backcountry and trail runs for the more adventurous.
The Madrona Group Rank: 3rd
2. The Summit at Snoqualmie
Travel Time: 1 Hr 37 Minutes
1,981-acre ski area covering 4 peaks, offering 20+ lifts, terrain parks, & many restaurants & bars.
I have skied Snoqualmie a handful of times and always enjoy myself there. It is very close to town and has a good assortment of runs.
The Madrona Group Rank: 4th
3. Leavenworth Ski Hill
Travel Time: 2 Hr 17 Minutes
Seasonal outdoor recreational facility for nordic & alpine skiing, tubing, snowshoeing & biking.
Leavenworth is probably not your destination if you are a downhill skier or snowboarder. It is a great place to get on the snow if you want to take the family tubing, or you are a cross-country skier.
The Madrona Group Rank: 8th
4. Crystal Mountain Resort
Travel Time: 2 Hr 22 Minutes
CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN SNOW REPORT Soaring mountain peak with over 2500 acres of groomed ski trails, plus a lift & resort amenities.
Definitely worth the extra hour of driving every once in a while to take advantage of the slightly better snow conditions.
The Madrona Group Rank: 2nd
5. Mt Baker Ski Area
Travel Time: 2 Hr 24 Minutes
Expansive ski resort offering a wide range of trails for all levels, lessons, rentals & restaurants.
This is my favorite local ski resort. The snow conditions are almost always pretty good and there are a ton of different runs.

6. Hurricane Ridge Ski Area
Travel Time: 2 Hr 56 Minutes
It is a small, family oriented ski area, offering to residents and visitors alike a quality winter sports experience, without the high cost or congestion of most ski areas.
I have only skied here once and it was a fun day but not a destination ski resort.
The Madrona Group Ranks: 6th
7. Mission Ridge Ski and Board Resort
Travel Time: 3 Hr 11 Minutes
Sprawling winter sports area in a 2,000-acre basin with 4 chair lifts & 36 designated runs.
I have skied Mission Ridge the second most in the state, but not because of snow conditions. We just take little trips across the mountains and then ski there.
The Madrona Group Ranks: 5th
8. Echo Valley Ski Area
Travel Time: 3 Hr 37 Minutes
A small family-friendly ski resort located in the Lake Chelan area of Washington State.
I had to check this ski resort one time while I was in Chelan. Again, it is not a destination but we had fun for the day.
